Thornapple Credit Union 2016 Scholarship

The purpose of the $1000 Scholarship is to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement, community involvement, and excellent character.   Requirements to qualify for scholarship:

  1. Scholarships are available to members of TCU who are high school seniors or home-schooled seniors for the class of 2016.
  2. Must be a member, in good standing, of Thornapple Credit Union. If you do not have an account but would like to apply for this scholarship, you will need to open a new account at TCU.

The Scholarship Application: Part 1: Student Application Part 2: Written Recommendation from one non-relative such as a neighbor, boss, teacher or a coach. Part 3: A typed essay (500 words or less) on the philosophy of “People Helping People”.   Use of Scholarship: The student must enroll in an accredited two or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the fall of 2016 following high school graduation.   Details of Scholarship:

  1. There will be one scholarship recipient.
  2. The amount of the Scholarship will be $1,000.00.
  3. Payment will be made in check form, payable to the scholarship recipients and college/institution selected by the recipient.
  4. The scholarship recipient will need to come into TCU office to receive their check and get their picture taken. TCU may or may not present the scholarship at the recipient’s high school awards night.
  5. The scholarship must be used within one year after the date it is awarded.

Criteria for awarding the scholarship from TCU:

  1. Scholarship – The recipient must have attained a total GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Citizenship – The recipient must have a good citizenship record, such as outside work activity advantageous to their church, family or community.
  3. Attitude of Recipient – The student’s attitude must be that which, in the consideration and opinion of the committee, will make additional education or training beneficial to him/her in the community which the student will reside.

The application, recommendation form and essay need to be submitted, in full, to any TCU office by March 31, 2016. Please do not write your name on the forms. Simply write your account number on the application and essay. Your scholarship application is to remain anonymous throughout the judging process to remove any possibility of bias. Once the recipient is chosen, we will identify you by looking up your account number. If you don’t know your account number, please call any office for assistance.
